Kyiv is continuing its planned preparations for the winter season and potential emergencies with its municipal services. Specifically, social services are updating information on the actual places of residence for individuals with limited mobility who may require additional assistance if needed. This was reported by the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration for Self-Governmental Powers, Maryna Khonda, on her Facebook page.
This applies to elderly individuals living alone, persons with disabilities, and families who are raising children with disabilities. Current information will enable city services to promptly contact individuals in the event of an emergency, ascertain their needs, and organize assistance if necessary, including temporary relocation if required.
Maryna Khonda emphasized that this is a planned preparatory measure that the city undertook last winter and is enhancing this year. Updating data does not signify the declaration of an evacuation or a prediction of a specific emergency situation.
“Last winter, we identified a significant issue: a portion of individuals from the group with limited mobility do not actually reside at their registered address. Therefore, in an emergency, data on registered places of residence alone is insufficient.
We now aim to verify and update this information so that, if necessary, city services will know where a person is actually located and what specific assistance they require,” stated Maryna Khonda.
Individuals who are already under the social support of a territorial center for social services or a district department of social and veteran policy and have provided up-to-date residency information do not need to reapply to social services.
“Those who fall into the mentioned categories but are not currently receiving social services, or are unsure if the city has their current residential information, should reach out. We also urge responsible dissemination of information on this subject. Clarifying addresses and contact details is a routine part of the city services’ preparation for potential emergencies,” noted Maryna Khonda.
